Look Skinnier in your Photographs
Most of the time, I photograph brides in flats wearing a white dress on the beach here in Cancun. It´s a challenge, and below are a few things that make you look even more beautiful (and thinner) on your wedding day.
1) Buy a dress for your Body type.
2) Move your belly button away and your shoulders towards the camera.
3) Shoulders back and have good posture.
4) Use your arm to create the illusion of a smaller waist.
5) Stand beside or behind your man
6) Stay away from 90-degree angles with your arms
7) Walk like you’ve had a few drinks
8) Hire a photographer that is willing to retouch
1) Buy a Dress for your body type.
I often see a beautiful bride purchase a dress that is lovely, but not quite right for her body. And this is not about one body type being better than another. We are all beautiful the way we are made and working with what we have is so much better than trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. Therefore, I suggest finding a stylist that will help you choose a wedding dress that works for your body type while still giving you the bling you want on your wedding day.
2) Move your belly button away and turn your shoulders towards the camera.
Moving your belly button away from the camera and keeping your shoulders towards the camera will give a twist in your spine and the illusion that your waist looks thinner. And what girl doesn’t want a slimmer looking waist?
3) Shoulders back and have good posture
Proper posture is a must for excellent photographs. If you need a visual, think of a swan with shoulders back and a tall neck. And don’t worry about being perfect; it is our job as photographers to politely remind you so that you look amazing on your wedding day.
4) Use your arm to create the illusion of a smaller waist.
This might be a little confusing, but if you can create space between your body and your arm. That small space will show off your figure and will create the appearance as though you are thinner.
(Don’t worry, I will direct you to do this on your wedding day.)
5) Stand beside or behind your man.
The simple rule is that the closest thing to the camera looks the biggest. Therefore, if you want to look smaller, stand a little (even 2-5 inches) behind your man. As a result, he will look bigger, and you will look smaller.
6) Stay away from 90-degree angles with your arms.
When holding your arms, try to stay away from a 90-degree angle, or your arms will look strong. Whereas if you keep a more acute or obtuse bend in your arm, then you will look softer and more feminine.
7) Walk like you’ve had a few drinks
Let’s face it, everyone looks a little sexier when they have had a few drinks. Or maybe that’s the other way around, but none the less, walk by putting one foot in front of or slightly to the other side. In other words, your right foot goes over to the left, and your left foot goes to the right side. It will thin out your body and give you a more hourglass and feminine figure.
8) Hire a photographer that is willing to retouch.
I believe the camera adds 10 lbs, and I don´t want my brides (or grooms) to worry about posing perfectly on their wedding day. I want them to relax, have fun and allow me to capture their personalities and authentic expressions. As a result, we give all our brides a little squeeze here and tuck there when we see that the camera is being mean.
I hope you found this helpful, and please do not try to memorize the above and/or try to practice them. I will work with you on your wedding day to make sure you get great photographs and have a fun time.
