Choosing the right shirt for your wedding in Cancun and ensuring it fits well is key to looking good and staying cool.
Fit and Fitted
For photography, a well-fitted shirt always looks better than a loose one. “Fitted” doesn’t mean skin tight—you should still be able to move comfortably. Aim for a balance between comfort and style, but definitely go for a fitted shirt.
Neck Size
I’ve seen so many guys struggle with their top button at weddings here. It’s usually because they didn’t account for the 80-90% humidity, which makes everything, including you, expand. If your collar is tight at home, it’ll be even tighter here.
If you’re wearing a tie, pick a collar size with a bit more room. If you’re skipping the tie, you can go for a smaller neck size so the collar lies perfectly.
Natural Fabrics
In Cancun’s heat, natural fabrics are a must. They breathe better, are cooler, and are more comfortable than man-made or blended fabrics. I wear a 100% cotton shirt every day for this reason. It’s hot here, so keep this in mind when choosing your shirt.
Patterns
Solids generally photograph better than patterns. Patterns can be distracting and draw attention away from you. It’s best to stick with solid colors unless patterns are your signature style—in that case, embrace it and do your thing.
Color
You will sweat on your wedding day. With humidity often at 80-90% in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, it’s crucial to consider this when choosing your shirt. I wear a white or near-white shirt to every wedding I photograph. When it dries, you won’t see the sweat stains. Darker or colored shirts will show sweat while wet and leave stains when dry.
Iron Free
This might seem obvious, but iron-free shirts show fewer wrinkles and photograph better throughout the day. If you have the option, go with wrinkle-free.
I hope this helps you choose the right shirt for your wedding in Cancun. My goal is for you to have a great wedding, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you,
Dean
