Abigail and Matt’s Akumal Destination Wedding

An Intimate Wedding in Akumal, Mexico

As a wedding photographer, I love hearing stories about how my couples met and then sharing those stories. I believe it completes the story of this Akumal destination wedding. Here is this couple’s story in Abigail’s words:

“Matt and I met during the summer of 2009, when we both moved to the coastal town of Wilmington, NC within a few weeks of one another. We met through mutual friends and spoke from time to time when we bumped into one another. Admittedly, I was dating someone else at the time, but all the while I had a secret crush on Matt.

In the fall of 2010, we ran into one another at my college homecoming while he was in town for work and I was there enjoying the festivities of my alma mater. I may have had one too many drinks when I confessed my feelings to Matt, but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the feeling was mutual and we were able to reconnect.

Sadly, a few months into our relationship, Matt’s job transferred him three hours away to Greensboro, NC. Without doubts, we agreed to continue our relationship and see where it took us. Matt and I were able to see each other at least every other weekend and we took many trips together including Memphis, New Orleans and, for the first time, Akumal, Mexico.

A year into our relationship, Matt suggested that I move to Greensboro and I honestly didn’t have to give the idea much thought. I knew that Matt was the person I wanted to grow old with. We loved one another’s families and our families loved each of us. Most importantly, I knew he would be the perfect father to our future children. So, in May of 2013, Matt proposed marriage while we were on a relaxing and romantic weekend getaway at the beach. Of course, I said yes and thus began our beautiful, exciting journey together.”

Abigail and Matt’s married story starts with this beautiful Akumal destination wedding surrounded by a few close family and friends right on Cannon Beach and near one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico.
