Felicia and Ben’s Mayan Cenote Trash the Dress
Felicia and Ben are an amazing couple from Vancouver, British Columbia who wanted to top-off their magical wedding with a special Mayan cenote trash the dress session. The day started off with a stop to see my favorite makeup artist – Adrian from The Styling Trio. This guaranteed that Felicia would have the most stunning makeup that would last all day for the shoot. Needless to say, it’s incredibly tricky to get make-up to last in the heat, under water and then back in the heat again! Adrian is the master makeup hand we needed!
Once the beautiful Felicia was ready, we headed down to one of my favorite, secret places to photograph. We captured some romantic images in the jungle, which I think you will agree, turned out truly spectacular. Afterwards, everyone jumped in the water – ok, I jumped in and everyone else eased in. You can’t really cannon ball into the water wearing a wedding dress. Plus, we needed to get the air out of Felecia’s dress’ skirts – otherwise her gorgeous gown would double as a flotation device! Once we got in the water, the magic really started to happen. I don’t know what it is about these Mayan cenotes, whether it’s the energy around them or the spirits the Mayans believe inhabited them, but sometimes when you’re in the water things just flow, the photos evolve and everyone relaxes. It’s hard to describe this special magic, but the photos speak for themselves…
On our way back to the couple’s resort, we made two final stops: one, to get the best Mexican tacos ever at a local street stall (trust me, they’re UHMAZING!) and two, at a local beach to get some shots in the sand, sun and surf. The beach was a great opportunity to get some more intimate shots than we got on their wedding day since there were no crowds and no time constraints. In the end, it was an altogether wonderful day capturing some beautiful memories of one of the couple’s first days as husband and wife!
